When he accepted the job at JSerra Catholic High School, third-year baseball coach Brett Kay told reporters he wanted the Lions “to be a team to watch out for.”
Consider his goal accomplished.
This week, the Lions won its first-ever Trinity League baseball title. The team will learn Monday who it will play in the first round of the CIF playoffs.
A Mater Dei graduate, Kay says the season has been satisfying on many levels. Winning a title over his alma mater “is always sweet,” he says.
“It was also great for the boys to realize just how good they are,” he adds. “To be the best, you must beat the best.”
