Two-time first-team All-Trinity League baseball player Bret Dahlson has committed to play collegiate baseball at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, officials announced today.
Dahlson, a JSerra senior from Yorba Linda, hit .385 with five home runs and 30 RBIs last season, and played a key role on the Lions first Trinity League championship team.
“Bret is one of the best athletes I have had the pleasure to coach. He can do it all and has the intangibles to go far as a scholar-athlete,” said coach Brett Kay.
Dahlson intends to play first base as well as pitch at Loyola, which “is rare these days for Division I scholar-athletes,” Kay said.
But first, Dahlson hopes to lead the Lions to another title.
Two other returning members of the Lions championship team already have college commitments: junior Austin Hedges, of San Juan Capistrano, who will play at UCLA and senior Grahamm Wiest, of Orange, who will play at Cal State Fullerton.
Recent graduates from last year’s squad with scholarships are:
Colton Plaia, of Mission Viejo, Loyola Marymount
Quinn Renner, of Laguna Niguel, St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia
Joe Kurrasch, of San Juan Capistrano, UC Berkeley
Matt Paradise, of San Clemente, Santa Clara University
Todd del Toro, of Mission Viejo, Air Force Academy.
