JSerra prepares to defend its Trinity League baseball title with some of the best ballplayers in Orange County, according to an Orange County Register report published this week.
“The Lions (22-7 in ’09) won their first league championship last season, and might be just as good this season,” wrote columnist Steve Fryer.
One of the key reasons for the Lions No. 3 ranking is the returning talent, he says. UCLA-bound junior catcher Austin Hedges is last year’s Trinity League’s player of the year. The paper named him one of the county’s “top five players to watch.”
Fryer also highlighted Loyola Marymount-bound senior pitcher/first baseman Bret Dahlson; Cal State Fullerton-bound senior pitcher Grahamm Wiest and a new face – Tyler Krause, a junior transfer All-State honoree from Arizona. Also returning is Cal State Fullerton-bound outfielder Clay Williamson.
And don’t forget the coach. Brett Kay was the Orange County Register’s 2009 coach of the year.
