DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis junior Alex Holmes has earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region honors to continue a season of firsts for both her and the Aggie softball program. Holmes was selected to the Pacific All-Region Second Team at the position of utility/pitcher. It’s the first such honor for Holmes as well as the first for an Aggie since the program turned Division I. UC Davis will begin its first NCAA Division I Regional Friday afternoon, May 21, at Stanford.
The latest honor adds to a growing collection of hardware for Holmes. Earlier this week, she was named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year and received All-Big West First-Team recognition at two positions. She has also been named Big West Pitcher of the Week twice and Player of the Week once.
Holmes leads UC Davis with a .352 batting average as well as a 16-9 mark in the circle to go along with a 2.94 ERA. Her efforts helped lead UC Davis to a tie for the Big West regular season crown as well as an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
