Lauren Portice Honored by Disney for Community Service

Congratulations to Lauren Portice for earning a $5,000 scholarship from Disney for all her hard work serving the community. Lauren is the founder of the JSerra chapter of Sports Gift, an annual fundraiser asking for new and used sports equipment for children across the globe.

Lauren was recognized today for her accomplishments, which include more than 100 community service hours, a GPA of over a 3.0, and all her efforts for the last four years.

“This is such a great surprise. My heart is truly warmed,” said Portice.

Principal Tom Waszak said he was honored to present Lauren with the Student of the Month award at today’s Mass. “This is so great that Disney recognizes students for their community service. To the JSerra community it is more than just a requirement, it helps to build and shape each student’s character,” said Waszak.

In attendance for the award announcement was Lauren’s sister Grace, a freshman at JSerra, who will also be taking over Sports Gift this fall. Lauren’s father, Joel, also flew home from a business trip in Florida, to be in attendance with his family during this memorable moment. Kari, Lauren’s mother was also in attendance, and even snapped a few great photos to add to the family album.

Special thanks to Disney for making dreams come true at JSerra.
