Thanksgiving Message from President Frank Talarico

Dear JSerra Families,

As we approach the holiday season, we have much to be thankful for at JSerra Catholic High School. In the classroom, on the athletic field, and in our community, our students continue to excel and make us proud.

We are blessed to have as our new rector Fr. Robert Spitzer, a renowned spiritual leader who has written several highly regarded books on leadership, faith and life issues. As the former President of Gonzaga University, he has influenced the spiritual development of tens of thousands of young men and women over the past three decades. A Catholic Priest in the Society of Jesus, he said he plans to carry on and move our Catholic identity “to the next level.”

Sarah David, one of our talented student journalists, interviewed Fr. Spitzer in the most recent edition of Paw Print, our student newspaper. Fr. Spitzer told her our students have already impressed him with their attentiveness and participation at Mass. Among his plans: to ensure JSerra’s religious identity “takes on the same force as our other identities,” including sports. I encourage you to read Sarah’s thoughtful interview with him. We are truly blessed to have Fr. Spitzer at JSerra.

Fr. Spitzer isn’t the only member of our staff making a difference. Mr. Stroupe and I enjoy receiving emails and phone calls from parents who compliment our dedicated staff. Following the Fall Blessing Performance, I was copied on a particularly wonderful email congratulating Mrs. Backes on a job well done. The parent wrote that her daughter “was so excited about the experience, that she told her father and me that she would like to minor in music when she goes to college. Wow, what a nice surprise!”

Has a JSerra teacher made a positive impression on your family? We want to hear from you. We will be featuring periodic profiles on outstanding JSerra employees, and your feedback is appreciated. Email with your recommendations, as well as a few sentences on why you recommend this employee.

I could go on about all we have to be thankful for at JSerra. Our website, this blog, Twitter and Facebook pages are filled with outstanding highlights of our recent and past accomplishments. We always welcome your input and feedback.

The administration, faculty, staff, and Board of Directors of JSerra continue to work tirelessly to ensure JSerra continues its evolution into one of the finest academic, spiritual and community-focused high schools anywhere.

Have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving and holiday season.
