Two JSerra Swimmers Qualify for the Olympic Trials

Congratulations to JSerra’s second Olympic qualifier, freshman Kaitlyn Albertoli. At only fifteen years old Albertoli qualified for her first event this past week end in Florida in the 50 Freestyle in a 26.36 and the qualifying time was a 26.39, that’s only three one-hundreds of a second.

A big accomplishment for JSerra swim as both Albertoli and Katie McLaughlin will compete for a spot on the 2012 Summer Olympic team.

Case Studies Program Opens New Doors

The JSerra Counseling Department hosted its first annual Case Studies Program where the roles were flipped to allow students and parents to experience what it would be like to be an admissions counselor.

Students and parents were broken up into small groups with college representatives from across the country to make admissions decisions on four students. Students and parents received an insider’s view on the admissions process and what they consider when admitting and denying students.

“We all agreed it was a great program and a very worthwhile evening for all of us. The case study exercise, the summary slide presentation, and the opportunity to talk to the various college representatives were interesting and useful in educating us about the application process and the colleges them selves,” one parent stated.

“My children went away with two new colleges added to their list of potential colleges that were not previously under consideration. Thank you for providing such opportunities for us to learn more about how to help our children succeed in getting into the school(s) of their choice.”

Stay tuned for the next Case Studies Program in Spring 2013.

Boys Golf Takes Home Big Victory

*By Damian Dottore, Orange County Register

JSerra is a boys golf team filled with potential, having a the most talented lineup of players that Brian Schippel has had since he began coaching the Lions seven years ago.

The Lions still won, posting a 207-251 victory against the Saints, and are off to the best start in school history, improving to 6-3. But to compete in the Trinity League, the Lions have to find a way to get into the 180s.

“They are all good players and they work really hard to prepare. This is by far the most fun that I have had coaching,” Schippel said. “Now, it’s just a matter of learning how to win and have and have five solid scores. They have all done it. But as a group they haven’t done it.”
