Congratulations to JSerra freshman Katie McLaughlin for being named as one of Orange County’s top twelve swimmers to watch.
McLaughlin, front center, is earning strong reviews throughout O.C. as a swimmer on the rise. In February, she set the Southern California swimming record in the 13-14 age-group for the 100-meter freestyle (56.57). She also has already blasted the No. 5 all-time 100-yard fly for Orange County (54.70).
McLaughlin was also named OC Varsity Athlete of the Week.
The freshman blazed to the fifth-fastest 100-yard butterfly in Orange County history (lifetime-best 54.70 seconds) and won the 100 freestyle in a county-leading and meet-record 51.67 seconds at the JSerra Invitational. McLaughlin also blazed a 59.22 in an exhibition 100 backstroke at the meet, her first in high school swimming.
McLaughlin will also be competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team this summer.
