As another school year is about to begin, with all its excitement and challenge, I would like to take this opportunity, as the new principal, to point to past accomplishments as well as future possibilities. JSerra can be justly proud of its record of excellence, whether in academics or athletics.
In a relatively short time, we have managed to achieve much, thanks to the sacrifice and hard work of our founders and founding faculty.
But as we approach the milestone of our tenth anniversary in 2013, JSerra can also be confident with respect to its future. I say this having witnessed among my colleagues a strong fidelity to the school’s founding vision – a vision which recognizes that any education worth its name seeks to bring about a complete transformation of heart, mind and soul.
If asked to sum up the goals of a JSerra education, we could hardly find a better synopsis than the one expressed in St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians: “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things” (4:8).
This is the gold standard, as it were, of all faith-based education. And that is the standard we seek to provide for our students, now, throughout the next decade, and beyond.
Let us look to the coming year with great confidence as we extend a warm welcome to the class of 2016 and to the fine new faculty and staff that have joined our ranks.
May God bless you, your families and the entire JSerra community.
