JSerra President Visits with Prestigious Universities

University of California, Los Angeles

President of Pepperdine University, Andrew Benton, along with several members of  his staff met with JSerra President, Frank Talarico, and JSerra Board Member Chris Cox in late August. The visit extended well into the afternoon at the university’s gorgeous Malibu campus. The same day UCLA’s esteemed Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Janina Montero, met with both gentlemen at the Bruins’ Westwood campus.

Cornell University

“We are incredibly fortunate to be located near some of the finest higher educational institutions in the world. The obvious dedication to education at all levels exhibited by President Benton and Vice Chancellor Montero is inspiring,” said Frank Talarico, JSerra President.  “The time they took to meet with us and brainstorm regarding future projects was exceptionally uplifting and showed what excellent stewards they are of their discipline.”

JSerra will continue to turn to both institutional resources for advice as we persistently look for ways to refine and improve all aspects of JSerra’s operations. This is one of the ways we will fulfill our desire to give the best educational experience possible to each of our students.

Board Member Cox traveled to New York and met with Shawn Felton, Senior Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment at Cornell University. “The meeting was very productive. Sr. Assoc. Director Felton was exceptionally helpful in his discussion with me and offered valuable insights which will benefit JSerra,” said Cox. “We are very grateful Cornell is sending an Admissions Representative to meet with JSerra students, faculty and administrators this September. I encourage all students interested in UCLA, Pepperdine, Cornell, or any other universities to reflect their interest on Naviance as soon as possible.”

Pepperdine admissions director tours JSerra

JSerra President Frank Talarico with Laura Kalinkewicz, Pepperdine University admissions director

JSerra seniors who are registered on Naviance had a special opportunity to meet with Pepperdine’s new admissions director, Laura Kalinkewicz.

Arriving on campus for her first visit to JSerra in mid-August, Kalinkewicz was very impressed with the grand tour she was given by JSerra faculty member and Pepperdine alum Laura Kennedy. During an interactive luncheon with administrators, academic department heads and faculty,  Kalinkewicz pointed out how much JSerra and Pepperdine have in common.

“All agreed our Christian faith, its application to our curriculum and manifestation to serve our communities and the world at large, unite us in a similar educational purpose, vision and mission. Opportunities for future collaboration are a natural outcome of this tremendous visit,” said Frank Talarico, JSerra president.

The Pride Gains Momentum

Current students have the opportunity to share their experiences, and what they love about the JSerra community. From sports to academics to extra curriculars parents and students alike enjoy each Pride event and find it to be beneficial.

Each Pride reception welcomes families from around the community, sharing important information about JSerra, with a presentation from Admissions Director, Andy Sulick, and shared experiences from JSerra seniors, as well as Athletic Director, Jim Hartigan.

With each reception comes great bonds and community formation, encouraging everyone to get involved we invite you and the community to The Pride.

For more information on the next Pride event please contact Amanda Samaan at asamaan@jserra.org
