29 Palms, 1,000 smiles, Many Priceless Moments

Thanks to the many students and families who donated toys, we headed out with over 1,000 toys, for the Marine families at 29 Palms.

Special thanks to Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Schulte, Alex Berman, Frankie Bastone, Tara Lanigan, and Courtney Avila for all of their help.

We were able to give seventeen $25 Wal-Mart gift certificates to help the Marines families with Christmas dinner.

Thank you for your generosity to help Marines children everyone was so thankful!

We were inspired by the amount of toys the JSerra community brought in. You made many, many children happy on Saturday.

Running Lions Leave Other Teams in Their Dust

JSerra’s Track & Field team racked up quite a list of accomplishments this season. But two accomplishments are so fantastic that the standout from the rest: the Running Lions took a record 15 athletes into postseason CIF competition and four of our athletes signed letters of intent to compete at the NCAA level.

Senior Harrison Steed won his third CIF Championship and is still working towards next week’s state meet in Fresno. He was third there last year, but first the year before. If he can jump another 7′ 2.5″, as he did in January, the odds are great that he can bring JSerra a second state championship. Next year he will be attending UC Berkley (Cal) on a full scholarship.

Senior Sydney Teske (All-CIF, All-Orange County, All-Trinity League) was third in the girls 800 at CIF Championships. She holds four JSerra school records, and is going to be running for the University of San Francisco next year.

Other college signings include Katie DeYoung who will attend University of Southern California, Chris Garcia who will attend Saint Mary’s College, and Taylor Mujica who will attend Concordia University.

Our boys 4×400 team of Chas Harmon, Alex Berman, Ace Raphael and Jake Decker were fifth at CIF Championships, earning them all CIF honors.

And, finally, a great sign for the future of the JSerra’s Running Lions were the number of underclassmen who dominated against our Trinity League rivals. Luke Decker (800, 1600), Colby Lindholm (3200), Caitlin and Ashley Nilssen (400, 800, 1600, 4×100) and Amanda Graceffa (100, 200, 4×100) are some of our superstar runners who will all be coming back next year to continue our growing the tradition of excellence. Or, as we like to say, Keep Pushing… Always.

JSerra Student Alex Berman is Prepared for Emergencies

JSerra Junior Alex Berman has been volunteering with the Community Emergency Relief Team, or CERT, since last summer. Berman will be applying to West Point Academy and the Naval Academy at Annapolis next fall, and he knows his work with CERT will look great on his resume. He also knows that the work he is doing now will teach him volumes about a life of service. Additionally, as reported on April 29, Alex will serve JSerra as ASB president. He is also involved in choir, track, and cross country.
