Thuen Named OC Varsity Athlete of the Week

mmr8mw-mmr8lmgswimthuenmug580Congratulations to sophomore Karli Thuen for being named to the OC Varsity’s Athlete of the Week.

Thuen captured the 200-yard individual medley (lifetime-best 2:01.81) and raced on the national record-setting 400 freestyle relay (3:21.20) to help the Lions capture their second consecutive CIF Division 1 title. Thuen also was part of JSerra’s county-record 200 free relay (1:32.35) and placed eighth in the 500 free (4:55.22).

Unterman Named OC Varsity Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Jonny Unterman for being named OC Varsity’s Athlete of the Week.

Unterman posted a 2-under-par 34 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course to help the Lions post a school record 181 in the victory against St. Margaret’s. He also posted a 2-under 34 at Santa Ana Country Club in a match against Mater Dei this season, giving him a 37.5 nine-hole scoring average.

JSerra Swimmer Named Athlete of the Week

Freshman, Brittany Kahn smashed the meet-record in the 500-yard freestyle by over four seconds with a 4:55.67 at the Trinity League prelims Saturday. Kahn’s time ranks second in the county.

Congratulations to Brittany and the JSerra Swim team, for their second athlete of the week for the 2012 season.

OC Varsity Names Top Ten Swimmers to Watch

Congratulations to JSerra freshman Katie McLaughlin for being named as one of Orange County’s top twelve swimmers to watch.

McLaughlin, front center, is earning strong reviews throughout O.C. as a swimmer on the rise. In February, she set the Southern California swimming record in the 13-14 age-group for the 100-meter freestyle (56.57). She also has already blasted the No. 5 all-time 100-yard fly for Orange County (54.70).

McLaughlin was also named OC Varsity Athlete of the Week. 

The freshman blazed to the fifth-fastest 100-yard butterfly in Orange County history (lifetime-best 54.70 seconds) and won the 100 freestyle in a county-leading and meet-record 51.67 seconds at the JSerra Invitational. McLaughlin also blazed a 59.22 in an exhibition 100 backstroke at the meet, her first in high school swimming.

McLaughlin will also be competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team this summer.

Coco Miller Named Athlete of the Week by OC Varsity

Congratulations to Coco Miller for being named this weeks girls basketball athlete of the week by OC Varsity.

The freshman guard scored 19 points in a 93-22 victory over Costa Mesa and she had 31 points in JSerra’s 68-66 overtime victory over Bishop Montgomery of Torrance to help the Lions reach the CIF-SS Division 4AA quarterfinals.

The Lady Lions take on Windward Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the JSerra Pavilion. Admission is $5 with a student ID and $8 for adults.
