This Wednesday night, May 8, from 6-7 p.m. in the Lions Den, there will be a mandatory parent/athlete meeting for all students wishing to join the Running Lions this summer and fall. Come experience the travel, camaraderie, and championship sensation of being a Running Lion.
Whether you’ve run before or not, this is a life-changing experience you won’t want to miss. There are plenty of opening available on the varsity, and many a new runner has made that leap to the championship squad. JSerra Cross Country: We’re more than just a team. We’re more than just a dynasty…. We’re a family.
JSerra’s track and cross-country coach Martin Dugard, sits down with Coast Magazine’s Terence Loose to talk about writing his first screen play, becoming a New York Times best selling author, and the strides of being a high school running coach.
Christmas greetings! I hope that you are enjoying the Christmas break as you prepare for the upcoming festivities centered on the birth of our Lord. I also hope that you are able to stay dry and off the roads.
This morning the OC Register announced several all-county teams for the 2010 season. I am proud to announce that senior Katherine Delaney was named the outstanding female cross country athlete for the 2010 season AND Marty Dugard was recognized as the cross country coach of the year. This is a great honor for Kat, Marty, the JSerra athletic department, and the school. As you know, Orange County is blessed with great athletes, strong athletic teams, and great coaches. To be recognized as the cross country athlete of the year and the coach of the year is truly an honor. I do not recall if this is our first in either category – I believe that Brett was recognized as coach of the year in baseball and a JSerra soccer player may have been recognized as the athlete of the year – it represents a high level of achievement and it reflects the tremendous growth of the athletic programs.
I visited with the cross country teams in Mammoth back in August and I listened as they discussed their goals for the season. This honor recognizes Kat’s incredible talent and work ethic and Coach Dugard’s dedicated leadership as well as the team’s drive to achieve their goals. Kat, coach Dugard, and the entire team are to be congratulated for a great season filled with individual and team success.
Other awards and athletic honors this year include:
Juan Gutierrez was 2010 CIF Soccer Player of the year and OC player of the year. He also made the All America Team only 3 players from California.
Coach Davor was the CIF Soccer coach of the Year and OC Register Division I Soccer Coach of the year in 2010/2011 season.
With arms open and beaming smiles JSerra once again welcomed the grandparents of the JSerra community to the Wednesday morning mass.
In the company of over 72 grandparents, aunts and uncles, this year’s Grandparents Day was even grander then past years.
A special message about desire and a yearning for heaven inspired everyone to connect with those around them and celebrate life within their families and communities. After communion, Principal Waszak gave a truly encouraging speech to the grandparents and students.
Coach Dugard also had the opportunity to introduce the Lady Running Lions and present them with their trophies for all their accomplishments. He thanked his mother, who looked on from the crowd, saying “thanks mom for raising a runner, so that I could coach these girls.”
In honor of the Running Lions accomplishments and making JSerra history, Waszak announced that the students would enjoy early dismissal on December 10 to celebrate the team’s record setting successes.
Following all the excitement from mass, a special reception was held for all the grandparents and their students to allow them to socialize, enjoy refreshments, and gather their favor for attending – a commemorative t-shirt for each. JSerra Blog interviewed sister school St. Anne School’s Grandparents of the year, Thys and Elaine de Beer, who have two granddaughter’s currently attending JSerra, (pictured above).
