The City Council recently recognized Lauren Portice and Jonathan Li, who were each recently awarded a $5,000 Disneyland Resort scholarship for their community service.
Portice, a resident of Laguna Niguel and student at JSerra Catholic High School, was recognized for her work with Sports Gift, an organization that collects and donates old sporting equipment to underprivileged children in the U.S. and around the world.
Ten Orange County high school seniors who have spent hundreds of hours of their time on ambitious community service projects have won $5,000 college scholarships from the Disneyland Resort.
The selected students were surprised at their schools by a Disneyland Resort “prize patrol” team and honored at a dinner gala Wednesday at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
“Each year, I enjoy hearing about the tremendous achievements of our Disneyland Resort Scholarship recipients and I’m amazed by the exciting work they accomplish,” Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis said in a statement. “The special role they play in our local communities is invaluable, and the acts of leadership and commitment they’ve shown through their service is something we all are proud of.”
