JSerra’s David Mickle is OC Varsity’s Scholar Athlete of the Week

A senior forward for the Lions, Mickle has been a model of high achievement in the classroom and in the community. His current courses are: Honors Comparative Religion, Intermediate Piano, Spanish 4, English 4, AP American Government, AP Physics C, and AP Calculus BC. He is the treasurer of the school’s Paws for Preventing Poverty club. He is also a member of the Peru club and has traveled to Piura, Peru to help build houses, donate clothes, and teach English to the local population. Mickle has been a four-year youth leader for the Corpus Christi in Aliso Viejo. His top college choices are Cornell, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt where he plans to pursue a major in Environmental Engineering.

Artists in Residence Hosts Children’s Book Illustrator

JSerra’s Artists in Residence program hosts children’s book illustrator J.H. Everett, to speak on his latest endeavor,  Izzy and the Candy Palace. The speakers series will be hosted in the JSerra Center room at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8

Copies of the book will be available for sale and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Kid’s Cafe Program of Second Harvest.

Biography J.H. Everett

J.H. Everett is a visual storyteller, writer, and creativity expert. He holds a Ph.D in Early Modern European and World History from the University of California, Irvine.

Though he is now known for his work in children’s books, he has worked as a professional musician, composer, playwright, theater director, artist, teacher, and actor. He has created work for companies such as Christy Ottaviano/ Henry Holt Publishing, Scholastic Books, The Jim Henson Company, the MMJ Foundation, and the Los Angeles Times. He has taught students from preschool through the college level.

J.H. Everett is co-creator, with Marilyn Scott-Waters, of the illustrated middle grade nonfiction series, Haunted Histories. (Christy Ottaviano/Henry Holt Books). Everett has created concept illustrations for the Jim Henson Company, as well as concept covers for Scholastic. His illustrations have been featured in the Los Angeles Times. Lions Basketball Takes on Santa Margarita and Gives Away New Car

Soles 4 Souls a Success for Boys Water Polo

JSerra Boys’ Water Polo ran a charitable fundraiser for “Soles 4 Souls” Thursday, Oct. 20 during their Trinity League Game against Santa Margarita.

While playing 3 games in a span of 2 hours, the team was able to collect over 150 pairs of gently used and new shoes to donate.

They would like to thank all the wonderful donors, families, administration, teachers and friends that came to support them and “Soles 4 Souls”.

JSerra Boys’ Water Polo is fortunate to be a part of an incredible cause that reaches so many people in need.
