One could not have anticipated what was to come as the 2013 high school All-star team walked out onto the frigid ice at the Honda Center. Nine athletes from JSerra competed in both the junior varsity and varsity levels, along with their coaches Jean Labbe and head coach Mike Perkins.

With much anticipation surrounding the game the Lions joined forces with student-athletes from Santa Margarita, Servite, Orange Lutheran, Edison and Corona del Mar high schools.

Junior Varsity All-Stars included: Jake Lauricella, James Barrett, Zach Fiedler, Anthony DeMaio, Brendan Pagani, Max Johnson, Evan Plotnik, and JSerra coach Jean Labb.

Varsity All-Stars included: Tanner Richardson, Nick Inserra, Chase DiBari, and JSerra head coach Mike Perkins.

“The opportunity to be a part of the ADHSHL All Star Games at the Honda Center is a great experience for everyone involved,” said Coach Perkins. “Our JSerra players who participated in this event represented our school, our program and their families very well.”

With the help of DiBari scoring a goal the varsity ‘Black Team’ won the All-Star game on The Anaheim Ducks home ice 5-2.

JSerra Varsity Hockey Wins Tournament

JSerra Varsity Ice Lions won the Valencia President’s Day Tournament in exciting fashion. After winning its preliminary games 4-0 (California Bears), 3-1 (Beach City Lightning) and 4-1 (Ventura Mariners) they faced the McKinney, TX Lightning in the championship game.

The Lightning opened the scoring in the first period with a short-handed goal. The Lions didn’t equalize the game until seven minutes remaining in the third period. The game stayed tied through a five minute overtime period and went to a shootout. After ten rounds of shootout the Lions were victorious.

“The team stuck together through a slow start and slowly built up some momentum,” said Head Coach Mike Perkins. “They found a way to get the job done, and represented JSerra well.”

The JV Lions went 0-1-2 in a tough AA division.
