JSerra Pep Squad Brings Home Top Honors

IMG_0248The 2013/14 JSerra Pep Squad recently returned from USA Camp in Anaheim earning numerous awards.  During the closing ceremonies the girls and parents were thrilled to hear JSerra’s name called out for the prestigious awards.

“This year’s camp experience was remarkable. I had more fun with the girls than I have ever had and we grew so much together. All teams winning superior ribbons was such a blessing but I think the best part was the memories we made together. It was the perfect way to start off my senior year with such a great group of girls and I will cherish it forever,” said Layla Nasr, Varsity Captain.

IMG_0196The 48-member Pep Squad has been working extremely hard to prepare for camp and their dedication paid off.  For the first time in JSerra history the Pep Squad brought home this amount of awards.   The girls are excited to start the school year and bring their award-winning attitude back to JSerra.

“This year’s camp experience was the most memorable out of all my four years throughout high school. I was blessed with the opportunity to lead the song team as captain this year and I couldn’t be more proud of us four girls. We accomplished the unthinkable.  I couldn’t ask for a better, more hard-working squad of girls. It was truly a great way to walk out of my last high school cheer camp,” said Gianna Sciortino, Varsity Song Captain.

Pep Squad Receives Numerous Awards at USA Pep Squad Camp

By Cami Proctor

The JSerra 2010-2011 Pep Squad, under the direction of spirited new Head Coach Danielle Villegas, has begun the year already achieving much success! After working hard all summer to prepare for this season, they attended USA Camp in August and came home with a bus load of awards for their efforts. These honors included multiple superior awards (the highest score) on all of their evaluations for Varsity Cheer, Freshman Cheer, Varsity Song, JV Song, and Mascots. That’s right… we have official mascots this year!

Additionally, JV Song, a new team this year, won the Most Improved Award out of 30 squads at camp! Varsity Song won the Hardest Working Award. All American Awards were bestowed upon Varsity Songleader, Jennifer Blair and JV Cheerleader, Victoria Ponder. This honor includes an invitation to visit London for a parade celebrating their excellence!

The Exaggeration Award was given to the mascots who displayed the most charisma and the strongest stage presence. Congratulations to our Lion Mascots, Allison Driver and Peter White! Allison and Peter also brought a routine to camp for evaluation and received a Superior rating! The Unity Award is most esteemed and voted on by all teams at camp. This very special award, noting a team’s spirit of charity and generosity, was given to Varsity, JV and Freshman Cheer as well as our talented Mascots.

Finally, the Spirit Stick, which is passed on to teams exhibiting the most spirit, was also awarded to JSerra on more than one occasion. This cherished award was received by JSerra twice during camp, including the final day at the awards ceremony when it became theirs to keep. The Spirit Stick honored all of our teams, Varsity, JV, and Freshman Cheer as well as Varsity Song, JV Song, and Mascots.

Congratulations to Varsity Songleaders, Annika Hathaway and Jennifer Blair who were invited to audition for the USA staff this Spring.

We are so proud of our Pep Squad and all their successes so far! We look forward to the spirit they will bring JSerra this year!

Pep Squad Part of SJC Regency Opening

JSerra Pep Squad members helped in the San Juan Capistrano community with the grand opening of the Regency Theater under the supervision of the new 2010-2011 Head Coach, Miss Danielle Villegas. VIPs took the train in and were welcomed by our girls at the entry of the theater, holding Regency Flags, donning JSerra uniforms, and representing our school!

Opening in May 2010, the brand new Regency San Juan Capistrano Theater boasts four auditoriums. There are three auditoriums downstairs with stadium-seating and a VIP auditorium upstairs with tiered-seating, leather chairs and in-seat dining. Stepping into the Regency San Juan Capistrano Theater is like stepping into a scene right out of the classic film Casablanca, with its Moroccan motif and large mural on the second floor featuring Humphrey Bogart. Another great feature at the theater is the addition of Rick’s Café, a beer and wine bar with great concession items for your dining pleasure. When you visit the Regency San Juan Capistrano Theater, it’s more than just going to see a movie; it’s a complete entertainment experience.

Macy’s 83rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade Invites JSerra

Kat and Leah on Avenue of the America’s near Radio City Music Hall.

JSCHS Varsity Cheerleaders Katherine Pfost and Leah Moyers bring in the Holidays in New York City.

After rehearsing with 700 girls from around the country for 5 days and 5 nights, including a rehearsal at Herald Square for NBC, Katherine and Leah were ready to go. Up and ready for a dress rehearsal for the 83rd Annual Parade on Thanksgiving morning at 5:00 am and boarding the subway to Herald Square to perform the opening act for the parade, the girls later took the subway to Central Park West to bring up the end of the parade with Santa, for the entire three mile length of the parade. The girls looked forward to this day since August, after having been invited to perform in the parade while attending UCA cheer camp with the JSerra Pep Squad at UCSB. They were excited to show how all their hard work paid off.
