Sports Gift

JSerra’s chapter of Sports Gift had another successful collection, last week.  The club collected over 150 items to be given to Sports Gift charity in Laguna Hills.  The equipment will be sorted and sent to children in So. California and all over the world.  The club collected jerseys, shorts, cleats, tennis shoes, baseball bats, shin guards, soccer balls, footballs, tennis raquets and sports bags to name a few.
The Club focuses on sharing gods love through sports. Thanks to everyone who donated, each item will touch a child’s life, thanks in part to your generosity.
If you have used or new sport equipment, shoes or clothing to donate but did not bring it in time, please e-mail Lauren Portice at lportice@cox.net to coordinate a drop off.  Please check out the website at www.sportsgift.org.

JSerra Athletes Get Involved in Giving Back

By Amanda Samaan

JSerra student and player for the lady Lions basketball team, Lauren Portice has kept busy since her transfer to JSerra.

Looking for a way to give back to society in a way that could involve friends and fellow teammates, Portice found Sports Gift to be the perfect way to combine sports promotion and charity all in one.

Sport Gift, a non-profit focused on providing sports equipment to underprivileged children throughout the world and promoting sports related community service among our youth, works to improve the lives of and give hope to impoverished children through a variety of sports related programs, including the collection and donation of sports equipment.

To date, Sports Gift has collected over 130,000 articles of sports equipment for underprivileged children around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Indonesia, Central America, South America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Drawn to Sports Gift’s mission, Portice made it a personal goal along with the help of club moderator, Coach Mary Rossignol, the girl’s basketball team and JSerra students – to make JSerra the single largest contributor of sports equipment in the entire Sports Gift organization.

The club has set up donation tables at three football games and encouraged students and parents to bring in their new and used sporting equipment and clothing. So far the JSerra club has collected over 200 used and new sporting equipment and clothing. With hopes to have more donation events this year, the response and success has been a testament to the JSerra community’s commitment to service.

After receiving basketballs, soccer shoes, used running shoes, referee uniforms and many jerseys and shorts, JSerra’s Sports Gift club is hoping to get more equipment such as bats, balls and cleats, as we are approaching baseball season.

Contact Coach Rossignol at 949-276-2810 x4210 or mrossignol@jserra.org for more information about JSerra’s Sports Gift club and be sure to check out http://www.sportsgift.org for more ways you can get involved.
